breast cancer survivor

From Sabrina and Rex

As I sit and reflect on the journey that has led me to where I am today, at the beginning of my story I had no idea what life would be like after receiving a cancer diagnosis at the age of 27. Would I be alive to see my 30th birthday? Would I be here to celebrate important milestones with my friends and family? Would I live to be an Aunt to sweet little nieces or nephews? Would I ever get to marry my best friend or would cancer be what broke us apart?

My journey began with so many uncertainties and quite honestly led me through some of life’s darkest moments, yet many chapters of my story remained unwritten. That meant it was time to gracefully take on challenges one day at a time. One thing that is for certain is if you look for the good in life (regardless of your current situation), you will find the silver lining- even if that means sometimes you just have to look really hard. This may not have been a glamorous journey or one to envy, but it is one that allowed me to learn there is good in all things. It allowed me to trust in others and love my friends and family hard. And despite the challenges that presented, each day truly came with its own gifts.

Fast forward almost 3 years-through chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, awkward haircuts, weight gain and menopause, a 30th birthday, becoming an Aunt to the sweetest little girl, and at last a proposal from my best friend. Even after it all, I still managed to land myself one ruggedly handsome and kind soul. And best of all, we made it…. we weathered the storm that seemed impossible at times. We had made it through Marine Corps combat deployments together and a cancer diagnosis. We knew our love would stand the test of time.

I am a strong believer that if you contribute positive things to this world, positive things will come back to become part of your story- The Wedding Pink was just that. Rex and I are still in awe of the good Cheryl Ungar brings into this world. Who was this incredible individual gifting us a wedding of our dreams? Well Cheryl is just that, an incredible person. She is truly a genuine soul who simply wants to bring good into this world. Any conversation with Cheryl makes you feel right at home and as though you are catching up with an old friend.

Cheryl Ungar, Ann Marlin (Our AMAZING wedding planner) and all of the generous wedding vendors made our day absolutely perfect! Thank you will never be enough to repay the kind and heartfelt generosity of all who donated their services and time. We are blessed to have formed special friendships with so many of you. I leave this journey feeling beautiful and taken care of and throughout this new chapter in my story, that feeling is priceless- definitely one I will forever hold near and dear to my heart. Everything about our wedding day was absolutely perfect. My heart is so happy and overflowing with gratitude. I am truly blessed to walk beside some of the strongest women around and will forever be grateful for this special gift. Thank you for gifting me my silver lining. I promise to continue to pay it forward and bring good into this world so others who walk a similar path are lead to find their silver lining too. I will forever be infinitely proud to be part of the Pink Family! Much love to you all!

XOXO,

Rex & Sabrina Laceby

Wedding Pink 2018 and New Website

Happy Thanksgiving!

There is so much to be thankful for and we appreciate all of the support we have received over the years from everyone particularly the vendors and donors. Without them The Wedding Pink would not be possible.

We have two big announcements to make.

First off we have just launched our beautiful new website, huge thank you to our 2014 bride Erika for the lovely redesign.

And, drumroll please, The Wedding Pink 2018 will be held at the Sanctuary Golf Course in Sedalia, Colorado on Thursday, October 25. We are beyond excited to partner with this exquisite venue. It's a true Colorado destination wedding venue that you and your guests will never forget, just south of Denver, yet a world away. Surrounded by mountain views the breathtaking clubhouse is nestled amongst unrivaled scenery in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.  This beautiful venue has multiple fireplaces, custom wood details and intricate stonework creating a rustic Colorado feel.

Please visit our submissions page if you or someone you know would like to apply for the wedding.

Amazing New Program for Survivors - Pink Time Outs

My colleague Jean over at No Boobs About It has launched a wonderful new
program for breast cancer survivors.
Here is more information:
The Pink Time Outs Program provides women and men, who have recently
finished active treatment( surgery, chemo, radiation) for breast cancer,
with funded short getaways from all things breast cancer.

The Pink Time Outs© Program is about using short getaways to put closure
on the end of active treatment and facilitate the transition to life as a
survivor. The goals of this program are simple:

•A physical and mental break from all talk, sights and routines that
remind us of breast cancer

•The opportunity to feel refreshed in mind, body and spirit

•To enjoy a much-needed time out to recreate and participate in
normalizing activities

•The freedom to think about something other than breast cancer, to begin
thinking about what comes next as a survivor.

The first funded getaway is April 2, 2013 at the Biltmore Estates in
Ashville, North Carolina. To see the details of the trip, please go to
http://noboobsaboutit.org/pink-time-outs/

The winner and companion will be chosen by lottery drawing.

The Biltmore Estates getaway is the first of many getaways planned in the
months to come across the U.S. and Canada.
